Winter kit for a Land Cruiser 70

Land-Cruiser-Winter-Prep

S was getting a Land Cruiser 70 ready for winter rescues in the mountains. I went to watch.

Summer tires come off, studded snow tires go on. The summer set is on Bradley V wheels, light enough that he says the handling changed completely.

The snow tires: Bridgestone Blizzak, 215/80R16.

The wheel nuts are finished with a torque wrench, a Kyoei.

The fronts went on without drama. He turned the truck around to do the rears, and then he did it.

Mounted backwards.

Check everything. That is the whole lesson.

Tires done, then the winch. It is a WARN, on a battery with more capacity than stock.

A homemade chain holder for the rear bumper.

Also homemade: a rope made from a seatbelt. Strong enough, and it stays soft in the cold, so it is easy to handle.

A Hashiken recovery rope. The shops that do this for a living use them.

Ready for winter.

A working truck has a plainness that is hard to beat.
