Screws and screwdrivers, parts 1 to 3

The most basic job there is: screws, and the screwdrivers that turn them.
It is so ordinary that I had never really thought about it. Hearing it spelled out, I could see exactly how a screw gets ruined.
Part 2 is a backstage story from the old Japan National Railways, now JR, plus screw length and diameter, and what the right tightening torque actually is.
Part 3 covers thread pitch, a smear of molybdenum grease, why the screwdriver should be long, and how many screwdrivers are worth owning.
